What is Housing Support?
Stonham HomeStay is a free and confidential housing support service for people who are at risk of losing their home or need help to settle into or set up a new home.
Some of the reasons why HomeStay may be able to offer you housing support:
- Relationship breakdown or bereavement
- Moving into a new home
- Debt problems, including mortgage and rent arrears
- Homeless or at risk of becoming homeless
- Domestic violence
- Physical or mental health problems
- Drug or alcohol problems
The type of housing support HomeStay offers?
- Help to develop independent living skills
- Budgeting and debt advice
- Benefits and welfare rights, including form filling
- Settling into your home, including setting up your gas and electricity bills; etc
- Help to understand your tenancy/mortgage responsibilities
- Accessing other services in the community
- Support to speak up for yourself
- Access to training and employment
- Help to resolve neighbour disputes
- Support during court, tribunal or appeal hearings
Some support that HomeStay doesn’t offer:
- Counselling
- Transport to and from appointments
- Personal care, including washing and bathing
- Cleaning, gardening, shopping, cooking and making phone calls for you
- Giving you medication
- Administering your personal finances
